The Trees Through the Forest (Introduction)

Seeing the forest through the trees is something many people have said, meaning being unable to see the big picture past the small details. When taken literally however, in most cases it is the opposite. Even seasoned, successful hunters often times can not see the trees through the forest. Being able to identify the species of tree that you are hunting near, or seeing sign near while scouting, can help you gather helpful information when it’s time to chase your target species.

In this first Wild Heritage Horizons blog series, we are going to briefly discuss various trees that inhabit the hunting grounds of the Modern American hunters. This blog series will be a working series, and will be developing for quite some time. We will start with trees that can be the most impactful for a hunter, beginning in the eastern hardwood and boreal forests. With some tips on how to identify different species of trees, and some points of how animals interact with different species of trees along with some ideas of what humans can do with different species of trees we can all learn something useful that will help in our outdoor adventures.

As a blanket disclosure, we are by no means experts in biology or dendrology (the study of trees). A citation page showing where information was gathered and give all appropriate credit can be found here: https://wildheritagehorizons.com/citation-page-and-helpful-links/
